Leg Cramps, Headaches, and Heartburn OH MY!

Welcome all those 2nd Trimester symptoms! Wish the 1st Trimester symptoms had diminished. I am STILL nauseous, and I still thorw up about once a day, AND I am still TIRED all the time. Blech.

Hmmm, can you tell I am NOT a fan of being pregnant? I think I have mentioned that once or twice : )

Mike only worked a day and a half this week so we were busy. Lacey took her first ferry ride because Mike ran a 5K on the other side of the sound and she also went to her first baseball game where the Seattle Mariners played the MN Twins. She did good all week considering she missed one nap a day for 3 days in a row.

She's been going to bed really well still (thanks to her army of toys in her bed) so I think I am going to pull the wrap for naps today and tomorrow...cold turkey. And then pull it for nighttime on Monday or Tuesday night. My motivation is that is may get a little warm next week. She's ready anyway. I will put on her CD and let her chill out to that for 30 minutes and then start it again if she still isn't asleep. Either way she will get an hour of "rest" Eventually, she will 'get it'

Stroller update: We, after MUCH deliberation, have decided to go with the pricey Phil & Ted's Vibe. My main reason is because I REFUSE to push around a double wide stroller when Lacey wants to walk, but I can't go with just a single because she will want to sit at some point. We need something will air filled tires since we do more walking than driving. A lot of people have suggested the Sit and Stand stroller but I think Lacey will still be too young for that. Plus with the Phil & Ted's it can be a double or single stroller with a push of a button. I am excited, but not sure where we will find that money!!

I will try to download some new pics a.s.a.p. I am pretty lazey with that!

Are you excited or what!

S-E-V-E-N NIGHTS OF NO CRYING/FUSSING BEFORE BED!!!

okay, so its dark(er) now when she goes to bed and I think that is what helps us out tremendously (*Note to self, do not move into another house where the sun sets into her room). But still, it has been a dream week. She has consistently been sleeping from 8 pm until 7 am without a peep.

I just had to share my good news.

*Also she is currently napping WITHOUT her sleep sack on. And she fell asleep instantly.

One thing I will miss about MN

Renter's Rebates.

They (the State) sends you a check for up to 19% back on your rent. Yes, there is a cap.

I got my $800 in the mail yesterday and couldn't be happier!

Bringing Home Baby-some observations

Okay, this show is on everyday during Lacey's naptime. So when I can't find anything else on I flip to it.

Now, I LOVED this show before and during my pregnancy, but now I sorta can't stand it. Although, it is nice to watch once in a while to remember those first few days (not so much the nights!)

1) Rarely, is the baby buckled correctly in the carseat. For some reason I am very obsessed about parents learning how to do this properly and it DRIVES ME CRAZY when they don't tighten the buckle or something, and then show it on camera. Just watch, it's rarely done correctly.

2) I also laugh at the annoying over-stressed parents. I can only say this because I have been there. So since that has been me at one point I can say it. It's also funny to see the parents who are like "we are doing a schedule and hope to be on that schedule in a week or so" Umm, i've been there too! Good Luck with that!

3) I would say 95% of the time they have 4857 family members come over. Now, maybe its because they are on camera so everyone decides to make an appearance but regardless of the reason I can say that it seems like 100% of the time, the over stressed out, exhausted mom ends up taking the baby and going into the bedroom to 'get away'. I again did the same thing. It is SO emotionally draining having a newborn and your emotions are out of whack and I think people need to learn to keep their distance. These poor moms, we go crying into the bedroom wishing everyone would leave, and then feeling guilty like we should do it all (like entertain and share our baby etc).

Anyone else have anything to add?

sleep

we've had 3 nights of no crying before falling asleep.

i hope i don't jinx it but I wanted to share my excitement. I say its all thanks to the cloudy weather, the sun isn't blaring in her room when she is trying to sleep.

FYI: Pumpkin Spice Latte's make their appearance on Wednesday September 3rd.

By the Numbers

Today marks our 2 year Anniversary. Funny that it has ONLY been 2 years. Most people talk about how fast time flies, but for Mike and I we sit back and think about the 62,000 things that have happened to us in the past 2 years.

We've both started school and then stopped, since we've been married.
We've moved 3 times, one of those times being across the country.
Mike has had 5 jobs.
We have become pregnant twice.
We have become parents.

I have been pregnant 13 of the 24 months or 54% of the time.
I have been stricken with morning sickness for 7 of the 24 months we've been married or 29% of the time.
We have been parents for 10 1/2 months of our married life, or 44% of the time.

The pregnancy one kills me. I am looking forward to that percentage decreasing every year from here on out!

Still Alive

We've just been busy.

Friday night- 45 minutes of crying then sleep.

Saturday- Mike's Bday! It was like 100 degrees out, we went to Whole Foods and picked up an AMAZING New York Cheesecake for Mike, then we walked to REI to find a gift. We ended up with a Marmot hoodie. It was a winner! But its hard to find a sweatshirt this time of year AND it is weird buying a sweatshirt when its 100 degrees out. At night we went to Maggianos. Lacey did AMAZING! She was so happy, and ate her pasta and bread with no mess and then only fussed when it was time to leave. Time it took lacey to fall asleep: 35 minutes.

Sunday- HOT AGAIN. I wore a sweater to church because I am usually freezing during the service. When I walked in my friend was like "how are you wearing a sweater?!?" I said the AC always makes me freeze. Her response..."there is no air conditioner" WHAT?!? YEAH IT WAS WARM. Plus I was drinking HOT tea. We had friends over for dinner that night. Time it took Lacey to fall asleep: 1 hour 30 minutes....

Monday- Mike was off again so we just bummed around and ran errands. The hot spell broke and I think the high was like 68 or something. We picked blackberries on the bike trail, came home put lacey to bed (cried for 5 MINUTES!!!!!) and then drank chai and ate cheesecake while watching the Olympics/The Hills season premiere (my husband likes it just as much as I do). I ended up throwing it all up though : (

That's all we've been up to.

Appointment Update

I had my 13 week appointment today. Lacey and I (yes, I had to bring her...) left here at 12:30 for our 1:20 appointment. It is truly amazing how long it takes to do things with a baby. Plus I needed to make a pit stop at Starbucks for some Berryblossom White Tea (because I knew that would settle my stomach).

1) I couldn't find my wallet. I had seen it in the stroller and then when I went to load the stroller in the car I couldn't find it. Lacey had been crawling around by the stroller. I figured she had taken it out. So I had to run back upstairs (dreaded thing about a condo) to look for it. Couldn't find it anywhere, but risking being late for my appointment and therefore risking Lacey falling asleep in the carseat on the way home, therefore destroying naptime. I had to go. I was depressed. No money= No Starbucks.

2) Then I remembered while I was driving that I had put the wallet in the top of the stroller (Thank-you STUPID pregnancy brain). Swung into Starbucks and we were good to go. Noticed as I was leaving their drive through is open 24 hours. Decided that if I am in labor in the middle of the night, I am going to stop there and get a caffinated latte on my way to the hospital. I kind of hope I go into the hospital around 2:00 a.m.

3) Got to my appointment, did the whole pee in a cup thing (oh the things you would like to forget). Went back and this weird nurse was checking my weight/BP etc. She was nice, but talked about her grandchildren non-stop. I weighed in at 96.6...haven't quite gained a pound. DARN IT. I had gained like 7 pounds with Lacey at this point. Whatever, it will come.

4) The weird nurse tries to listen to the baby's HB with the doppler. She can't find it, but she is talking about her grandkids the whole time. I just wanted her to shut up and concentrate. We heard the HB at 10 weeks with Lacey, so now at 13 weeks we should be able to find it right? She says the doctor will find it for me. She can barely find MY HB with the doppler.

5) Doctor comes in checks for HB. Can't find it either. Can't even hear the blood swooshing sound. At this point I am like, can we just get another machine or something? Because seriously. Nice, Kind, Doctor goes and gets the u/s machine. Hard to see anything since I had an empty bladder, but we saw the HB and the baby squirming around. If you have ever been pregnant, you know what a smile that will put on your face. She tells me that it doesn't matter if i take pre-natals or folic acid (since I don't). She said folic acid only is REALLY needed the first 3 weeks of pregnancy. Good I took it then. She talked to my about my weight. Basically just said that I can gain as much weight as I want and not to worry about it. Duh, I am not planning on dieting. And that was that. Pretty typical. Lacey did great.

Sleep Training or Sleep Testing

Because it really tests my patience...

Run down of last night.

7:00 Bath
7:20 Bottle
7:40 Bed
8:00 Still crying, I go in to calm her down
8:15 Go in for the second time
8:20 Seems Calmer. I go take a shower.
8:30 Out of the shower, don't hear anything. She's asleep or close to it
8:35 I throw up. Even though doors were closed, she starts crying again. Darn it.
8:45 Go in to calm her down
8:50 Do what any sane mother would do. I went to bed and set my alarm for 20 minutes later. She fell asleep sometime during the second 20 minute stretch. Time 9:30

Total crib fussing and crying time: 2 hours and 20 minutes.

I actually didn't get frustrated with her last night. Probably because my house was cool thanks to the AC!! I do wonder WHERE HAVE I GONE WRONG and how do I fix this. No mother wants their child to fall asleep crying, but what do you do?

I think the women's individual gymnastics is on tonight so I really, really don't want a repeat.

Day 3; Round 1

Even bigger failure than yesterday....

UGH. Maybe I should just forget this and one day, when I think I can take it, go cold turkey?

So today she was tired, I layed her in her crib. Checked on her once and she was just laying there, but not asleep. An hour after I put her down she was still talking in there so I went in to put her back down. She had pooped : ( I changed her diaper and did the whole naptime thing again. 30 minutes later she was still awake. By this time it was almost 11 a.m. That is when she usually wakes up. So I put on her sack and let her sleep for about 30 minutes.

It's not that frustrating because she doesn't cry when she is laying in her crib but the annoying thing is how I keep giving in. I don't know what to do because I need her to nap so I can salvage the day a bit. Plus I don't want to ruin the good nap routine we have going....hmmmm. I may need to read a bit more about sleep.

On another note: Bedtime was ANOTHER success last night!!! And, I am now the proud owner of a portable AC unit so you all can quit listening to me complain about how hot it is. It's warm again this week and Mike and I decided that we have this good bedtime thing going and we aren't going to ruin it by some days of hot weather. Let me just tell you IT IS FABULOUS!!! I don't know why we didn't just buy one earlier. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess. It cools off our living/dining/kitchen area very well. Then we will move it to lacey's room about an hour before bed to cool her room off. Then I bring it back out and we are good to go. It is a bit heavy so I am a little worried about moving it myself tonight but I will probably grab a little cart from downstairs.

So lets hope she goes to bed perfectly tonight (mike is working) because I am going to buy some gummy bears and tea and sit in front of the Women's Gymnastics team finals sipping my hot tea in my air conditioned living room : )

Day 2; Round 1

FAILED.

Try again tomorrow. UGH.

She was acting SO TIRED. So we hightailed it to her room. 45 minutes later she was still talking to herself. I figured she has to fall asleep because otherwise its moving into her awake time, so her next nap would be thrown off.

I put her sack on and 10 minutes later she was sound asleep. Not cool. We will try again tomorrow.

Bedtime Update: We were at a friends house last night so we got home a bit later than we should have, but we did the same sort of routine with lacey. Bottle, in the Living Room and then bedtime disguised as a nap. No bath last night. It worked again, but she fussed for about 30 minutes last night. Again, it never escalated to a cry (although mike and I were beside ourselves thinking it was going to). I think it took her a bit longer because she was a little overtired, and just needed to settle herself. Slept through the night, but I did imagine that i heard her cry out once, not sure if that really happened or not because I always seem to hear phantom cries. Either way, it only happened once and if it was real she must have gone back to sleep (or wasn't really awake...whatever the case). The fact that gymnastics was on TV last night made it pretty easy for me to stay out of her room while she was fussing...haha. We are crossing our fingers for tonight.

One a third note: I read someone online saying that they got a Britax Companion infant carseat at Target for 12.49!!!!!! So, we don't have an infant carseat...we gave ours away to someone who needed it. If anyone is at Target and sees one for that price could you please buy me one and i will pay you for it with shipping?? I.am.dead.serious. They retail at $209.99....

Day 1; Round 1

Nap #1 with no sleep sack...

It went well today, and I am not super surprised. I have tried to wean her off this thing before, but never got passed the first nap, but at the very least she understands that she is supposed to sleep.

I did her laundry this morning, so I washed her favorite blanket. I had to give her a different one but I guess she didn't care.

It took her about 15 minutes to fall asleep, but the biggest thing was: She didn't stand up! She stayed laying down! I thought I would have to go in there at least once to lay her back down, but nope! I am sure it will be a shorter nap, but that's ok with me.

Last night: you know how lacey hates bedtime? Well, we tricked her last night. We gave her a bath, then fed her a bottle while watching the Olympics and then let her play for about 15 minutes. Then I took her in her room, read her a book and put her down just like I do for naps. She fussed (no crying!) for 10 minutes and then went to sleep and slept a GLORIOUS 11.5 hours. Now, I don't know if this will keep happening, but when mike and I didn't have to spend 2 hours alternating trying to calm her down, we felt like we were on vacation! We also put her to bed at 7:30, normally we start the bedtime routine at 8:00. Last night by 8 she was sound asleep. Mike and I didn't know what to do with ourselves so we drank tea and ate mint milano cookies. Then we went to bed at 8:45 (no joke), but when your baby doesn't sleep you become exhausted!

10 months.

Double digit months! For some reason I have been waiting for her to get to double digit months for about 5 months. I think I am weird.

Lacey changes everyday, but at the same time doesn't seem to change all that much. In other words, as her mother I see HUGE changes, but to the average person they probably don't seem that big.

Lacey is talking all the time. She has a few new words..."no, no, no" being her favorite. Whenever she doesn't want to do something she just repeats 'no,no,no' over and over again. Hmmm...do i say it THAT often? She also started saying baby and num, num (after she eats something she likes).

Lacey loves to point at things. She points to either mama or dada when asked, she points to puppies, the tv, airplanes, lights, and cars outside. I love seeing her little fingers point. She also points to things she wants when she is at her highchair like cheerios or cheese.

Lacey eats pretty much whatever I give her, although she doesn't always eat a lot of it. I wouldn't call her picky, I would just say she gets bored and would rather get into things she can't.

Lacey doesn't like going to sleep at night. In fact she HATES it. We are trying to work on this one. I have decided that sleep when your baby sleeps is REALLY GOOD ADVICE and when your baby is 12 weeks old and is sleeping through the night, don't talk about it to anyone, because they will cause you agony in the sleep department later.

Lacey has started to let go of furniture when she stands up. Her balance is terrible though! I won't give a prediction for walking, other than it won't be this month! Based on her reaching the other milestones, she has always been pretty average, never really early for any of them, so I am guessing walking between 12-14 months. All I am concerned about is that I have a good walker by February!

3 Day Magic?

My baby sleeps with a sack. Its called the Pekemoe Sack. It cost us $50.

It was probably the best $50 that we spent on her, but alas, the time has come to say good bye to this thing.
-It's too warm.
-She is starting to outgrow it.
-She fights it. but won't sleep without it.
-I am sick of living and breathing by that thing.

So tomorrow starts our journey to get rid of it. We will get rid of it for nap #1 tomorrow, and will continue that for 3 days. Then it goes for both naps #1 and #2 for 3 days. Finally, we lose it at night. I am scared.

And you get to be my audience, to hear how it goes. Aren't you lucky!

update

I had my Integrated Screen today. Basically it is an ultrasound that is performed between 11-13 weeks and they measure the nuchal fold, which is something in the baby's neck area (not really sure exactly what??). Anyway, it can be used to help predict whether your baby may be at risk for genetic disorders (downs syndrome, spina bifida, trisomy 18 etc.). There is a chance to get a false positive, but the chance is pretty low.

I didn't have this test with lacey. It was offered but wasn't stressed AT ALL. In fact she told me that my insurance company probably wouldn't even cover it. This time around they kept going on and on about how important the test is and all the valuable information that it can give you etc. etc. How its ROUTINE PRENATAL TESTING and my insurance does cover it. I wanted the u/s to have a peak at the little one, so I had it done.

Everything looks great. Its a 2 part test...they take the measurement and then do blood work and give you your results from there. Anything under 3mm is considered normal. This baby measured at 1.2 mm, which is very good. I will get the blood work results next week.

Baby is almost 3 inches long, Heartbeat was 155. He/She was squirming all around in there and waving. The sonographer was happy because the baby was in a good position for a measurement, BUT then he/she fell asleep. Just completely asleep. She tried and tried and tried jiggling my belly, which is not cool when you have a FULL bladder. Finally she brought out this buzzer/vibrator thing that she buzzed me with to wake him/her up. It worked! Poor baby, but i figured he/she has 6 more months to sleep whenever they want so I can wake them up this time.

Maybe I will have a baby who sleeps through everything. That is something I don't have now.

Anyway, Lacey is 10 months old today!!!!!

I'll try to get an update tomorrow. I am tired, it took 4 hours to get her to sleep last night.....

Wednesday, August 6, 2008

okay, anytime now.

Dear Mr. Placenta-

First, I am under the assumption that you are a man because no woman would ever make another woman sick for this long.

Anyhow, I have decided that I am just going to go ahead and TELL you to start taking over and doing your job. I figure if a woman can somehow learn hypnosis and feel no pain during childbirth, then I can certainly tell you to start taking control of my hormones and by the power of my brain it will work.

Right?

12 weeks is supposed to be the magic time when all of this sickness goes away, well guess what? I am there! So if you would kindly start working a bit harder I would REALLY appreciate it.

H.E.L.L.

I hate using that word, but that is how the last few days have been.

SICK, SICK, SICK.

But bless her heart, my neighbor knew mike was gone last night and called me to see if she could bring me food and help out with Lacey (I cried). I told her that since I couldn't keep anything down that 7up, crackers, and tylenol would do. I had a killer headache from the force of throwing up.

She came over with those things and then took Lacey upstairs with her for a bit (I cried).

Then she came back downstairs, gave Lacey a bath, a bottle, and rocked her to sleep (45 minutes!). I fell asleep. When she had Lacey asleep and came to say good bye, I really cried.

I don't know if I could have made it without her. She was my Angel yesterday and I am so thankful.

i want this one...

on the quest for a double stroller.

i hate stroller shopping.

anyhow, it must be done. I have 3 choices.

1) Mountain Buggy Urban Elite Double Stroller- runs you about $900.00. Yes, I know, it is CRAZY. I can find used ones on c-list for around $300-$400 but somehow paying $400 for a stroller that is 5 years old seems wrong...but then again, paying $900 for a stroller also seems wrong. Note: this price doesn't include any attachments such as the carseat adaptor...which is a must.

2) Bob Revolution Duallie- since we are more than pleased with the single version, I am sure we would also like the double. Problems- the single is huge...i am sure the double wouldn't even fit in the back of the SUV. It is also wide and although it is supposed to fit through doors I know it would be tough in malls etc. Cost: $569 + $89 for carseat adaptor + $21 for cupholders + $39 for Warm fuzzy = $718.00

3) Phil & Ted's Vibe- The look says it all...total price $789 (OUCH...what can i sell?)

Note: 2 strollers (one for all-terrain and one for around town) is NOT an option...too much clutter. It will be one of these 3 and I am hoping its #3. If you know of any other good suggestions...DO TELL.

"BA"

In the past week Lacey has been pointing and saying 'ba' Its very deliberate so I figured it had to mean something. I just couldn't figure out what. At first I thought it meant book, but she never said it while around books. Then I thought it meant bottle, but we never call her bottle a bottle we call it milk. I ran out of options so I figured we'd just wait. Then today I was downloading some pictures and she pointed at the screen and said 'ba' (she was on my lap) I said, "yeah, that's you, that's a baby." Then she kept pointing at each picture and saying 'ba' as it downloaded.

Ba=Baby.

Duh.
